“Ahhh, This Chair is Just Right”

armrest

“After she’d eaten the three bears’ breakfasts she decided she was feeling a little tired.  So, she walked into the living room where she saw three chairs.  Goldilocks sat in the first chair to rest her feet. ‘This chair is too big!’ she exclaimed. So she sat in the second chair. ‘This chair is too big, too!’  she whined. So she tried the last and smallest chair. ‘Ahhh, this chair is just right,’ she sighed.  But just as she settled down into the chair to rest, it broke into pieces!”

So goes the story of Goldilocks’ adventure in breaking and entering the bears’ cabin. However, disaster averted. The chairs didn’t work out but Goldilocks found one of the bear’s beds that were “just right” and she slept off the chair malfunction.

However, unlike Goldilocks, I have found the chair that is “just right” first time every time and it’s even like a bed!  I didn’t break and enter anyone’s home. I simply found it at the local movie theater.  That’s right! It’s a chair that is as wide as a love seat and can become as wide as a sofa if the armrest is lifted, it’s leather, it has a huge cup holder that can hold my soda, cell phone and a box of Sno-Caps, and it has a button on the armrest that can take the chair from upright to fully reclined in 5 seconds! Ahhh, this chair is just right! Poor Goldilocks! She was born too soon.

I have become the movie theater reclining chair evangelist, but it’s not always an easy sell. One friend I tried to convert thought I was leading her on an evil path by suggesting she try this “just right” chair. She said, “That’s ridiculous. I don’t want to lie down in public!”

“What??!” I said.  “You don’t want to lie down in public? Haven’t you been known to drag a reclining chair to the beach with every intention of going flat on your back, in public, and in broad daylight?” Case settled. I wouldn’t give you bad counsel. Guess who’s lying down now?

1Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
