Words of Worth

Promises, Promises! Yea and Amen!

PromisesPromises_580x326Have you ever made and broken a promise?  Have you ever been on the receiving end of a promise that didn’t deliver?  It’s probably safe to say we all are accustomed to seeing promises made and broken and, if not, watch the weather channel on any given day and see all promises of fair weather that don’t come true!

Many reasons exist as to why we don’t come through on our words—we’re forgetful, we’re negligent, or we’re not smart enough or strong enough to fix circumstances beyond our control.  A promise is of no more value than it is of the one who makes it to carry through.  Only God can say, “I’ve kept every promise I’ve ever made!” (Psalm 89:34My covenant I will not violate, nor will I alter the utterance of My lips.”)

What has He promised?  According to some calculations made by man, God has promised anywhere from 7,487 to 30,000 promises to His children.  Suffice it to say, He has made innumerable promises, none of which He has or will break.  God has promised:

  • to supply our every need (Philippians 4:9)
  • to give sufficient grace (2 Corinthians 12:9)
  • to provide escape from temptation (I Corinthians 10:13)
  • to be victorious over death (I Corinthians 15:34)
  • to work all things together for good those who love and serve Him faithfully (Romans 8:28)
  • to forgive our sins and provide salvation in Jesus Christ (John 3:16)
  • to give His children eternal life (John 10:27, 28)

All of these promises have their fulfillment in Jesus Christ.  By His blood and resurrection, God’s covenant and all the promises of it, are fulfilled!

For as many as there are promises of God, in Him (Christ) they are yes;”

(I Corinthians 1:2oa)

And when they are received “by us” as believers in Christ, the more glory we are able to give to God.

“…therefore also through Him (Christ) is our Amen to the glory of God through us.”

(I Corinthians 1:20b)

Nothing can render God’s promises more certain-His giving of them through Christ assures us they are His promises! Promises, Promises! Yea in Christ and through Christ, Amen!
