Words of Worth

Would you rather…?

would you rather

Would you rather?”  is a popular and simple game which works well as an icebreaker or as a conversation starter.  The rules are very simple in that a question is asked and each participant must decide on an answer!

Some sample questions are:

Would you rather be a dog named Killer or cat named Fluffy?

Would you rather be 3 feet tall or 8 feet tall?

Would you rather always have to say everything on you mind or never speak again?

Would you rather eat poison ivy or a handful of bumblebees?

Would you rather end hunger or hatred?

Would you rather find true love or a million dollars?

It is easy to imagine how this game can lead to some interesting answers and reasons for those answers.  And it is harmless fun in that no one gets hurt in the process because the likelihood of having to make any of those decisions is….well…not very likely!

However, if you are wondering what adolescents “would rather” for real and not for play, new research sheds some light on this.  According to Pew Research, a nonpartisan think tank in Washington, D.C.,  teenagers  would rather give up their pinky finger than their cell phone. I guess they use their smartphone far more than their little finger.  Really?

Another study, commissioned by Zipcar, a car-sharing company, revealed that 40 percent of Millennials would rather lose their phone than their car and worse than losing access to a desktop, laptop, or TV.

In contrast, only 16 percent of people 35 and older would rather lose their phones than the other items. Actually, almost half of that group believed losing their cars would the most difficult part of their lives to give up. Losing a car to those younger than 35 was no big deal because they would rather text, email, and video chat with friends than meet up with them in person.

What would you rather?

Would you rather lose your phone, your Ford, or your finger and friends? (Sheryl)
