Love is in the air…or is it?

February 1, 2013

UnknownLove is in the air… Isn’t it?  Or maybe that’s just more snow blowing around… For sure it is February, and whether or not love is in the air, love is or will be, on the minds of a whole lot of folks in a couple of weeks when Valentine’s Day arrives.

But here at Words of Worth, February means love is on paper.  No, we aren’t going to send all our readers a Valentine -although we should and we LOVE knowing you are following this blog.  Instead, we are going to recommend a book for this month on the topic of Love.

In January, we promised to suggest monthly reading (if you are new and need to backtrack) – here’s the link:

What could be more appropriate for the month of “Love” than a book about love personified! Love in the flesh-love in human form came down to us from heaven.

This month’s book is “Love Walked Among Us” by Paul E. Miller.   Before Sheryl and I traveled to India last summer, we asked people for a book on cross-cultural ministry.  More than once, this particular title was suggested for our trip.  It is NOT a book about teaching in a different country; it is an up close and personal look at how Jesus treated ALL people while He “tabernacled” among us.  In other words, it’s a very clear picture of what love looks like.

Here’s a summary of the content:

Everyone knows about Jesus, but how many of us fully understand what he was like as a person? Nowhere was the vitality of Jesus more visible than in his love, a love unlike any the world has ever seen. Compassionate, honest, powerful, humble, and sacrificial-Jesus was love personified, love walking among us. Such an example doesn’t just happen. How did he do it? And how can we learn to love like him?

– How do you love someone when you get no love in return, only withdrawal or ingratitude?

– How do you love without being trapped or used by another person?

– How do you love when you have your own problems? When do you take care of yourself? When you are compassionate, people use you; but when you are honest, people get angry. So how do you love with both compassion and honesty?

In every way, Jesus’ life exemplifies the full potential of what we were intended to be. And the better we know him, the more we will be drawn to follow his perfect example.

We hope you will join us during the month of February as we read “Love Walked Among Us” – what better way to celebrate “True Love”?  (ct)
